Retreat & Meditation Center at Smiling Frog Farm is a 22 acre sanctuary in West Central Illinois. It has been a dream of Julie's and builds on what she calls Purusa: In Pursuit of Authentic Self. It offers many paths for personal transformation & joy.

The Founder ~ Julie Haugland
I am a Chicago area transplant. Moved here in 2006 with my husband, Robert. We totally rehabbed our house and started our journey as hobby farmers. I created & owned Vintages Tasting Room, a boutique wine bar & shop for 11 years. Currently a municipal employee working at the General Assistance Office, I had a vision for turning my home & sanctuary into a Retreat Center to share the magic of our beautiful land with others. A student of the metaphysical, I’ve been on a very spiritual journey to awakening since 2009.

What Role We Play
Calling all seekers and explorers of personal growth & spiritual development, we offer a place to getaway for an hour, a day, a weekend to relax & de-stress. Join us on a journey to discover our authentic or higher self. A sanctuary to remember who we truly are. Its a place for discussion & learning of all things creative, metaphysical or otherwise with like-minded people. A judgment-free zone that is safe for all. All are welcome. PURUSA ~ Our Electronic Newsletter
Long ago, my good friend Trisha & I started earthing and having meditation sessions out at the farm. Then we opened it up to others and began leading Saturday morning classes at the farm in the good seasons and at my former wine shop when it was cold or wet. Trisha came up with the name PURUSA for our classes. Purusa also known as Purusha is Sanskrit for spirit, person, self or consciousness. It speaks to the eternal, authentic spirit or as we paraphrased it “in pursuit of authentic self.” That’s the journey we were on . . . pursuing who we actually are, who our souls are at their most authentic. I’m still on this journey and its become my mission, my path to help others to remember and awaken to who they truly are. We are all one and all in this human experience together. In the meantime, Trisha went from being my earth angel to an angel in heaven and I know she is looking down on this journey of mine and giggling. I kept the name PURUSA for our newsletter. . . it just seemed fitting and a tiny way to honor her.
